Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)
The US Department of Energy (DOE) encourages energy and aviation companies to support R&D and demonstrate the use of low-carbon sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). SAF is a biofuel with similar properties to conventional jet fuel but with a smaller carbon footprint. SAF can be produced from a variety of sustainable resources, known as feedstocks. This includes biomass from forestry and agricultural, carbon capture storage & utilization (CCSU), used cooking oil as well as green energies such as hydrogen.
