Q.What kind of measures are required if the preset criteria range is exceeded (i.e. judged as fail) after a balance is inspected?
A : If the calibrated value is simply deviating, the balance should be re-adjusted using external or built-in weights. However, if the preset standard range is exceeded even after re-adjustment or if there are other probable causes, it must be repaired by the manufacturer. Furthermore, as a control issue, for all measurements that might possibly have been conducted with a failed balance, tracing back to the last passed inspection is required. Then the significance of these measurements must be verified, and the appropriate remedy must be performed. In cases where the measured values deviate considerably and greatly affect quality, the necessity for measures such as a recall also might occur. Detailed daily inspection is important in preventing this or minimizing any damage that might occur.
